According to the article "Beavers to the California Drought Rescue", relocating beavers to drought ridden wetlands can do a lot of good, but can also do harm to the environment. Do you think environmentalists should move beavers or keep them where they are? Use evidence from the text to support your position. Please respond to at least two other student entries.

I think that they should move beavers to drought ridden wetlands because the drought is making all of the water in the wetlands evaporate. The beavers can also do damage, but they probably can't do really bad things if you don't put them in large groups. I don't think that people should be allowed to hunt beavers, even if they do sometimes cause damage.

I don't agree with you Justine because the beavers might be very sad if they are in another habitat and destroy more trees. I think we should leave them where they and just leave the beavers alone.

I agree with you the beavers can do a lot of damage but they will help California's drought. And your correct the drought isn't doing ANY GOOD for our wetlands.

I don't agree with you Justine, because I also think they should stay where they are and even if they cause problems, they deserve to live in their natural habitat.

I disagree with you Justine, because the government says that they'll try to make man-made dams, and if that succeeds, then there would be no point in bringing beavers to the drought ridden areas.

I think they should move beavers to California because they can help the drought. Also it says in the paragraph when ir says beavers might be damaging stuff they could move them. They will help us alot with the California drought . But I also think it is a bad idea though when it says could damage pipelines and flood houses

I don't really agree with you or Justine because moving the beavers could inflict a ton of damage on the nearby homes, pipelines or farms. So I don't really agree with either of you.

I don't exactly agree with you gael, because the article says that the government is going to attempt in making man made dams, and if there are already man made dams, then we wouldn't need any more of them. Besides that, we'd be taking them away from their homes, AND risking people from the drought ridden areas that people are PLANNING on taking the beavers to, because the beavers can do damage and even make floods!

I think that if beavers can help the drought problem then that is ideal for the beavers to help, but if the beavers destroy pipelines and flood homes as well as harm farmland then I think that it would be hard to decide to either help the drought and risk damage to communities or figure out an other way to stop the drought and not risk damage to any thing. I'm not sure what would be better for humans.

I think that beavers should be able to stay where they are because we are making our own dams. When we make our dams, we will know where everything is so we won't harm anything. Also, beavers have a right to stay in their own homes in the location that they like. Imagine if you are a beaver- your mom just got shoved in a truck. There are men trying to get you. You don't realize that, and the men shove you in the truck. Your dad is escaping. The men go after him, and shove him in the truck, too. You look around the truck-you see allyour friends in there. You finally realize you're being taken away from your home. You wonder what the men are going to do to you. Isn't that awful?

I think the beavers should be moved to the drought ridden wetlands. They can help us with the drought we're in, because they'll make dams that block the water from floating away. In the article it says that Rick Lanman studies nature, and says that the beavers will bring back the wetlands. They'll also make soil better and so more plants will grow. In summer the dams will help the water flow. Although if they try to move the beavers, they might cause a lot of damage, they could ruin pipes or harm farmland. Beaver dams could even flood homes. But besides that beavers are very useful for our drought.

I do not agree with you Nola. I have seen a beaver lodge on vacation in New York and beavers need the right inviorment to live in. So if they are Putin the wrong habitat they will die. I also think beavers shouldn't be moved in the first place.

I think that the beavers should be kept here because they can help us from the drought. Even though they flood houses, damages pipes and do other things, but they can sometimes do good for the environment. In the text, it said that they'll try to make a dam like the beavers, then if the dam works the beavers can stay. If the dam doesn't work there is no telling what might happen to the beavers. I hope the dam works because I don't want all the beavers to be taken away to some place where it isn't their natural habitat.

Beavers should be kept in California because Beavers can help us stop the serious drought in California.Beavers sometimes do very wrong and crazy things, but sometimes they help. The article said that they will make a dam space for the beavers but if the dam doesn't work, the beavers will have to leave. In conclusion,I the beavers should be kept in California for the drought to help.

I agree with Julian because if they moved them, they'll probably might get confused with their new environment and try and find a place for a dam to build which is a great time for predators to strike because the predators can't reach the den in the pools of water they make with dams.

I think beavers should not be moved to wetlands. They can help the drought but can cause trouble. The article said about making man-made beaver dams to prevent trouble that the beavers can cause that sounds like a better idea. Also I think it is rude to move beavers from their home to here in California animals also have feelings and its important to take care of them. That is my opinion on the California drought

It's hard to decide if something can help a big problem, but also cause a big problem. The drought will not be as serious as it is now because of the beavers. But, like the article said," beavers can damage underground pipes. They can also harm farmland. Beavers dams may flood homes." So I'm going to go with moving the beavers. I'm so used people saying that California is in a drought. I don't want to be used to hearing that. The hunters should try not to hunt for them. Even though they were bad they can do something big. Saving a drought.

I think that they should let the beavers stay where they are because if they don't,the rivers will grow short and the plants around the the deep pools they make will start to dry up because there will be less water and like it said in the article,if they moved the beavers the might bite into pipes and cause a big water problem. That is why I they should not move the beavers.

This was a really hard decision for me. But in the end I chose beavers should not be moved, or at least not right now. If you look at it from the beavers perspective your being moved out of your home and the habitat you are used to and your beautiful dam that you have lived in and grown used to that took you days to build. Also once people move you you have to build a whole other dam. The article also said that we are making on making man-made dams. If that works no need for beavers. But I'll admit if the drought gets really serious and all else fails beavers might be the only answer.

I agree Alex, We aren't completely positive that the people will succeed in making the man-made dams, but we can hope that they will. If they fail in the attempt of making those dams, then the only answer would be to use the beavers!!! I hope they succeed in making those dams.

It is compilicated to decide one of the answer but I will chose the beavers. The wetland could harm the enviroment and things that live were the beavers land could get extinct and the food chain would break and it will be a more hard to the preadeter to eat a prey when they are extinct so i go on the beaver side!!!!!!!!

I don't think that they should move the beavers to a new spot. I think that the beavers have the right to live where they please, but now the environmentalists are trying to kick them out. I know that kicking the beavers out would help, but it won't help the beavers. If I were a beaver and i had a home I would not want someone to kick me out of my own home. I should be able to live a happy life without someone kicking me out my home. I'm with the beavers! The beavers shall stay!

The beavers should stay in their natural habitat. If beavers move to the environment, that will do harm/damages to that environment. The beaver's dam does help create a deep pool. It will change the food web. After all, the fish that live in the same habitat as the beaver will need to find another home, and many more changes can happen. Besides, in the passage it was written, "The government has an idea. It made its own dams. They are like a beaver's dam. It's trying them out in streams. If the dams work, beavers can stay where they are." That could be a solution. The beaver is a very important part of the food web.

I don't think that people should move the beavers into more drought ridden wetlands, because if the government is going to make man made wetlands, then there is no point in having to go through all of that trouble in bringing the beavers into a different area. plus, we'd just be disrupting, and disturbing the beaver's habitat. I think that if the man made dams work, then things will be easier for the Californians who are having trouble with the drought. Once again, the beavers have every right to stay where they want to stay!

I don't really know if the beavers should move or not. The beavers help us alot by stopping water from flowing away. That could save alot of water which is helpful b/c we're in a drought. And beavers have every right to stay in there environment where they are used to stay in. However, beavers destroy pipelines. If the pipelines are destroyed, the water will leak, which would not be very helpful to our drought. But I think the beavers shouldn't be moved because they have rights to stay where they want to stay.

I need to know if the beavers have homes, if some don't, then move those to the places where dams are needed. If all beavers have homes already then try plan B: man made beaver dams a.k.a. MMBD. Humans need to think about animals, they have feelings too! And not to mention complicated food webs/chains! If one animal is gone then the things under and above it go 👎, things above it die off and things directly below it get in such big numbers that they almost kill themselves by eating all their food and it continues all the way down to the bottem of the food web/chain.

I think that they should keep the beavers were they live because if they move the beavers here then they can cause trouble and if they move them then they will have to get use to California. Plus, if they move the beavers then people in California will want to kill the beavers to sell their fur and get more and more money. so I think that they should keep the beavers were they are.

I think the beavers should not be moved. This whole article is saying how good beavers are for the environment exept for one paragraph .The environment is important to!!!!!! It surprises me that the environmentalists are thinking only of use not the ENVIRONMENT.Sure beavers do bad but they also do some good. Some times it is not all about us humans ,it should some times be about what the things we kill and may not like need .Some may dis-like beavers ,but to me they are little helpers.

I think that the man-made dams should be built and the beavers can stay in their habitat. Letting the beavers stay and building man-made dams is better for the beavers and the people. The beavers probably wouldn't like to be moved around in big crates and the people are better off without the beavers waddling through the farmland and causing damage. "Beavers can cause serious damage. Beavers can damage underground pipes. They can also harm farmland. Beaver dams may flood homes," the article says. The beavers would still help because "man-made dams will be like beaver dams." The beavers will influence the man-made dams.
