Some reasons that California bighorn sheep are repopulating are there are many female bighorn sheep. If there are more female bighorn sheep then they are able to make babies. IF the bighorn sheep are able to make babies then there will be more bighorn sheep. But...... this also leads into the concerns that they will have in the future. When the male bighorn sheep make babies it takes a year.that means i will take a very long time for more bighorn sheep to grow.

It isn't that the female population rose but that females were relocated to other areas so they were able to repopulate in other areas.

Reasons that California bighorn sheep are repopulating is because there are more girl bighorn sheep's and if there are more females, that means that the females are going to make more babies and that means that there is going to be more bighorn sheep. The more sheep's the more popular they get.

one reason bighorn sheep are repopulating is because people say that there're many more females than males. but repopulating too much could end up is another species being extinct. i don't think we should let that happen.

I disagree with you Julian because how can repopulating lea to another animal extinction because the more they populate, the more sheep that will come. And we can't let another species go extinct. Not like the dodo, the tazmanian tiger, and every other creature that has gone extinct.

I agree with you, Julian. If we repopulate too many bighorn sheep, it could be a catastrophe. Bighorn sheep need something for their food other than plants. They will attack another species and soon that species will almost be extinct. Then, what are we going to do? We'll save that species, and they will attack another species. AND THEN WE'LL HAVE TO SAVE ANOTHER SPECIES!!!! No, we can't let that happen.

A reason that the bighorn sheep are repopulating is because there are humans helping create new herds and helping give birth to new bighorn sheep. Another reason is because there are many female bighorn sheep, and they give birth once a year. With about 250 female sheep giving birth, the Sierra Nevada will be filled up with so many bighorns! " Currently, out of 500 bighorn sheep, half are females and half are males." The thing is that we are not thinking clearly. How are we going to feed so many bighorns? They won't stop giving birth. We should be a lot more careful about what we do.

Nailed it, Natasha! You got the point and you hit the nail right on the head with the hammer. As soon as I read the first sentence, I already knew you got it. The main idea, right there. Shabam! The rest supported your main idea and was great. Love it!

I agree with you that the animals repopulated because there were ewes that gave birth and humans helped them. I didn't really think about how to feed the bighorns and that's very crucial. Though, now that you mentioned it, we would need a lot of food. We are also in a really huge drought and the more sheep there are, the more water that will be needed. I mean, animals need to drink water in order to survive, right?

Some reasons that California Big Horn Sheep are repopulating is because there are half of female sheep and half f male sheep they can give birth. People are researching how to repopulate these sheep. I think it is the humans that are helping or doing most of the repopulation of these sheep. There is a problem with this in the future.

Well the reason I think the bighorns are repopulating is because their are a lot of female sheep and their is a lot of males as well so their is a steady balance. This is good because the more females their are the more they will reproduce. A concern for the future is that since In 1 year one female bighorn gives birth to 1 baby, than if the population of bighorns somehow gets low again than it will be hard to get them back up to a steady number again because the breed pretty slowly. That is all I have to say.

First of all, the reason why the sheep were "on the brink of extinction" in the first place was that "in the 1800s, settlers started crossing the mountain range. With them came disease and hunting that nearly wiped out the sheep." The reason why bighorn sheep are repopulating is because "just last month, 14 sheep were helicoptered into Big Arroyo Canyon. This spot is located high in the mountains in Sequoia National Park. Nine of the sheep were pregnant." Which means, people have been relocating pregnant bighorn ewes (females) in areas where there should be sheep and there aren't so that the ewes will have babies there and start more herds. This way more areas have more or at least some bighorn sheep. Some concerns for the future are that herds grow slowly. My analysis of this is that hunters will hunt faster than herds will grow unless laws are made against hunting bighorns. My evidence is "growth of herds is slow." Also, "Currently, out of 500 bighorn sheep, half are females and half are males. The goal is to have 305 females." So another concern for the future is that there will not be enough females to make a significant difference in the population or that the population of females will not rise or will fall. I am glad that the California Bighorn Sheep are not going to become extinct soon.

I think that one reason why bighorns are repopulating is that humans are taking them to safe places where their offspring won't get hurt. Some concerns for the future are having to many bighorns. Also, sheep eat grass and LA is in a drought and grass needs water and sheep need grass so sheep need water. That could be problematic.

I agree with you Celeste because if the bighorns are in a safe place they might make more of themselves. Just like people if they're in a safe place they can stay safe from something their endangered from.

Some reasons that the big horn sheep are repopulating is because now they are being protected and put in an area where they can breed a lot and then they get sent to the other herds and if they find more big horn sheep in the wild, they bring them back to the breeding grounds and it starts up again. Also, some things to worry about in the future are the fact that the sheep might not breed fast enough considering a female only gives birth t one lamb every year which is really slow and it takes a couple of years for the sheep to grow.

Great response Arlon every fact in your response was absoluetly true. The bighorn sheep are repoulating because of the recovery group is helping and breeding. I also found the part when there might not be enough females to breed good but thanffully I do not think that will happen cause the recovery is going quite well.

A reason why big horn sheep are repopulating is because there are alot more females. That way, they can have more babies. Another reason is that they are being protected in this area where they can actually breed and have the babies. A concern is if there are too much sheep, there might not be enough grass. Since grass needs water, we will need to waste alot of that. And we are still in a drought. Also, it takes a long time for the sheep to grow which means it will take forever to reach the goal which is getting 305 females.

I agree with you Cara because if the sheep are in a safe place they'll be able to breed and born new babies just like you said. But the only thing I''m wondering about is that what would've happened if the bighorn sheep when they don't have a safe place to breed children.

A reason the sheep are repopulating is because people are helping to take them to new, safer places. I think that its good the goats are repopulating but later on the sheep can then again get the diseases again and can maybe get nearly extinct again, which wouldn't be good. I think that doing this is good because its saving animals and we should not hunt them down anymore.

A reason that the bighorns are repopulated is that people have been helping move them to a place they can survive or they think they can survive . That means moving to a place with a lot of grass and water and less predators. That would make it more nice for the bighorn . Another way that the bighorns were repopulated is that the infections have left or has at lest moved away for now. That helps keep the bighorns healthy. Allowing them to live long enough to repopulate.

This article is about Sierra Nevada bighorn sheep are making a tremendous comeback from the brink of extinction. there is multiple ways that they were able to do this. The main reason for this is most likely humans are extremely helping the bighorn sheep. There is a recovery project that a group is doing and is lead by Tom Stephenson. Accoerding to him the recovery is going quite well. It was Stephenson himself that said '' there was a lot of concern about extinction,However things has gone as well as anyone could've imagined". the recovery group is still trying to make new herds, infact a huge bighorn herd lived in Wheelers Ridge which the group splited up to make more herds. Another reason why The bighorn sheep are making a comeback is the females of course. Bighorn sheep are mamals which mean the have children the same way we do, so the recovery gruop is trying to breed the females. That way they can repopulate the sheep so they can again have vast numbers in the Seirra Nevad.a

One reason why the bighorn sheep is repopulating because they were dispersed into different places to make some herds and they succeeded on making babies and caring for making them into strong and tough sheep. I used text evidence to cite my answer, "The agencies selected 16 areas for bighorns, with the initial goal of repopulating 12 of them. The new Big Arroyo herd that was established in March was the 10th. Next on the list are Laurel Creek on the southern end of Sequoia National Park and Taboose Creek on the eastern side of Kings Canyon National Park."

I agree, Ashley. The sheep were dispersed into different places by the biologists. They helped them. Another reason is that there are ewes that give birth to lambs. The lambs would grow up and too have lambs just like their parents did and the life cycle would start all over again. I also really liked how you cited evidence from the article.

One reason that the bighorn sheep is repopulating is that are ewes(female bighorn sheep) that will give birth to lambs. That means the more lambs there are, the more sheep there would be. After all, they would grow and go through the same life cycle as their parents did. In the text, the author wrote that their goal is to find 305 ewes. Another reason that these mammals are repopulating is that groups of biologists are trying to help them recover from being extinct. In the passage, it was written, "In 2000, teams of biologists began their research. In 2007, they started reintroducing Sierra Nevada bighorn sheep by placing them into herds along the Sierra crest." A concern for the future in the article is that the author wrote, "Because ewes only give birth to one lamb per year, the growth of new herds are slow." That means it will take a pretty long time for them to have more lambs. It will also take a while for the newborn lambs to grow, in fact it could take many years! During that time, harmful hunters are able to kill them with powerful weapons. Killing bighorn sheep won't take years, it will take less than 15 minutes! If the hunters kill many of the ewes, the female sheep wouldn't be able to give birth to baby lambs. Another concern for their future is that they could catch diseases. The article was written that sometimes bighorn sheep catch horrible diseases from grazing sheep. Some diseases they had caught were pinkeye and pneumonia(lung illness). And if many of them do catch those, then they could die and the population could grow smaller.

The reason that more Bighorn sheep are reopopulating is because that there are more female Bighorn sheep. Which means, that the female Bighhorn sheep can reproduce and have more babies. Another reason is because the Bighorn sheep are now being protected in an area where they can actually have babies. Being in a safe protected area is good for the sheep because they can breed and have more babies on the earth. Also, when the babies grow up they will go through the same life cycle as their parents did which means that they will also have many babies (well, the females).

Jaya, I agree with you. The bighorn sheep are repopulating because of the females. Without the females, there would be NO bighorn sheep. If I had to suggest something to add to your response, I would include that the humans also played a big role saving the bighorn sheep from extinction.

There are various reasons why California bighorn sheep didn't go extinct. Half of the number of California bighorn sheep are females. Although the article states that the women only make babies ONCE a year. "Female sheep only give birth to one lamb a year. That means the growth of herds is slow. It will likely take another 10 years to meet the goal of 12 new herds."

I think that the reason big horned sheep are repopulating, is because they were becoming close to extinction, so people are beginning to extract female and male sheep from source herds, and put them in different areas one by one so they can create new herds. A source herd is a herd with such a large population, that if you took some sheep away and put them in other places, then the source herd still wouldn't be in need for more sheep. It's good that people are doing this, because now, big horns are recovering from extinction. In the text, it says, ...."'source population' for recovery efforts in the 1970s and1980s. In other words, sheep were taken from Wheeler Ridge and brought to various other areas.''I think that big horns are lucky that they have many adaptations that help them survive in the wild. One reason that they are recovering from extinction is probably because of that. They have fur that is good for camouflaging, so if any predator of the sheep, or something that is thinking of attacking a big horn, they'd need to search for it first. In the text, it says, "Spotting a big horn in the wild is very tricky. Their camouflage like fur makes them masters of disguise... big horns use their excellent vision to spot danger." These animals use these adaptations to stay out of danger, and I think that without having to worry about being harmed by predator will help them recover from extinction. Some concerns that we might have about the big horned sheep's population is that female sheep give birth to only one lamb each year, which means it will take a long time for herds to be created, in the areas that the sheep were transported to. I t will take much longer than we hoped for. In the text, it says, "Female sheep only give birth to one lamb a year. This means the growth of herds is slow." the last concern that we might have in the future, is the California drought getting worse. The article says that big horns live in cold temperatures, and if the drought gets worse than it already is, then it might effect the environment of these sheep. Then we might need to move them to a different state! In the text, it says, "Big horned sheep can live as high up as 14,000 feet." At heights as high as this, you know that the environment is supposed to be cold, and if their environment changes, then the recovery from extinction of the big horned sheep still won't be close to reaching it's goal.

I think that the reason the Bighorn sheep are repopulating because of the females. If they have one lamb every year and there are a lot of pregnant females out there, there will be many new babies. a concern for the future is that some babies will not make it. If all of the babies did not make it, bighorn sheep would have been extinct a long time ago. Luckily, that is not the case. most of the babies will make it. that is the reason of the repopulating.

I think that the reason why Big Horn sheep is because they have plenty of females and produces a baby in 1 year. Their goal is to try to reach 305 but it hasn't happend yet. This might affect the future because if we dont get any females the population is going to get smaller. I think that some concerns should be that they might die by predators if their predator population grows by killing the Big horns.

The reason why big horn sheep are repopulating because there are too many female sheep. But if every year a female gives birth to one lamb and there are a lot then that means that every year a whole bunch of lambs are born and then they grow up and the whole cycle stars over again and again so more and more big horn sheep there is. But also, if it takes one year to make babies then it is a very slow procces.

One reason is that the Big Arroyo Canyon have saved many of them and put them in herds so that they can repopulate the bighorns. One concern is that if the people at big arroyo place them in big herds, it makes them more vulnerable to predators because even one or two medium sized predators can take down most of the herd with just one bite. Even when they are in small herds the young can get attacked easily if they fall behind.

The reason that the bighorn sheep are repopulating is because all the female ewe that are getting atracted to the rams, so they have babies and that cycle keeps on happening so more bighorn sheep are born. In the future this will affect how much space is taken up by them and if you can keep them in a enclosure. Will they run loose, we do not know all we can do is help save us now. We can separate the females and the males.

One reason why they are repopulating is because a lot of people are trying to make their population bigger like putting them in shelters and paying close attention to the sheep. One concern for the future is if people just put them alone back in the wild they may die out or there will be a lot less of them. I also want to add that this was a very good idea to repopulate them!

Some reasons why big horn sheep are repopulating are that they are breading more, they are being brought to different places so they won't just be in one small place, and that people don't hunt them like they used to in the 1800's. In the article it says,"With them came disease and hunting that nearly wiped out the sheep." This means that when people would cross then Sierra Nevada mountain range the people would hunt them and spread their diseases. Since the sheep are repopulating, people might start to think that it is okay to hunt them, and then they will become endangered again.

And in the 1800 some people that was crossing the mountain range cause disease and it wiped out the sheep because of there disease. I will give you evidence " Then, in the 1800s, settlers started crossing the mountain range. With them came disease and hunting that nearly wiped out the sheep."
