I agree, that they should not let her into the ocean, and that it's good that it's a law that no one can harm or mistreat orcas. However, I don't agree when you say that it would be better for her if they did set her free. It's dangerous, and she wouldn't be able to survive. Now that she has been in the aquarium for 44 years, it's too late. If they had decided to set her free much earlier, then it would be better because she wouldn't be completely used to the aquariums' environment. But over all, your comment is great. You wrote a LOT.

I think that Lolita is safer in Miami's Seaquarium. I think she would be more safe in the seaquarium because she has been in the aquarium too long and might not be able to keep herself safe. Just like it states in the article "Lolita has been in the aquarium too long. She might not be able to live in the ocean on her own." said by Hertz. Also another reason is that she has been there for many years and yet she is happy and healthy. Although if you keep an Orca in the aquarium than it is almost like they are trapped. But still at least Lolita is healthy and safe from danger that I think it is fine for her to stay.

I think that Lolita should stay at the Miami Aquarium because if they put back into the wild she might not be able to catch fish on her own. In the article it Said that an Orca named Kiko and they put him back in the wild in Iceland. They put him there in 2002. He died in 2003. So if they put Lolita back into the wild, she might starve to death because people throw food at her mouth. She has never experienced catching live fish and if she has it was a long time ago.

I definitly agree with you Sofia. Lolita has probaly lost her technique and might not even how to catch fish. She will be like a new born babe. After all it has been a least 44 years since she has been in the wild in the sea and catching fish for herself. She has adapted and gotten used to people in the Seaquarium feeding her instead of cathing fish for herself.

I agree with you, Sofia. If she has been in the aquarium for 44 years, it's too late. She won't be able to survive on her own. I think that the aquarium might contain diseases that Lolita has become immune to. If she goes out into the wild, she might spread the disease. The article said: "Other attempts to release captive orcas were unsuccessful. Some freed orcas died." That means there's a chance that Lolita might die if she is freed.

I completely agree with you Sofia. It is way to late to set Lolita back in to the wilderness she has spent 44 years in Miami Aquarium. She might like it better free but she won't like it better when she dies.Lolita might be tired and sad of her aquarium but she is much safer. And when you say that she's not used to catching her own food she could starve to death. I think that, that is important because, Lolita may not be in the environment she wants, but it is the safer environment that she gets!!!!!!!!

I think that Lolita is safer in an aquarium. She gets food for free, and has no predators. She also wouldn't be able to survive after years and years of luxury in the Seaquarium. Lolita deserves to stay in her home. If I was Lolita and I knew about this, then I would get very, very, angry. I would feel that nobody was asking my opinion on what I would want. I would want to be able to decide. I think that apolitical would want to stay at the Seaquarium. Some evidence is that in the article it says " Andrew Hertz runs Seaquarium. He says that releasing Lolita would not be right. 'Lolita has been part of the Miami Seaquarium family for 44 years,' Hertz said. She is healthy and happy, he said.

I think that Lolita should be kept in the Miami Seaquarium because she is more safe and protective there. I can connect to this because no one will be safe or protected without shelter. Also I can use text evidence to explain why Lolita should stay at the Seaquarium, " Other attempts to release captive orcas were unsuccessful. Some freed orcas died," that's the text evidence which helped me realized that orcas will be in danger if they are free and out of the aquariums living their lives at the sea. Suddenly they'll die by something, they might die of hunger and maybe predators. These are the reasons why the orcas must be in aquariums where they are safe and sound.

I think that since Lolita has been in the aquarium for so long she shouldn't return to the wild. It says in paragraph #10 "Hertz said Lolita has been in the aquarium so long she may no longer be able to live in the ocean on her own. "We are not willing to treat her life as an experiment,” he said." This means that the aquarium owner, someone who has seen many sea animals, agrees that Lolita shouldn't be released.

I think that Lolita is safer at miami's aquarium because if she were to be released into the wild she would most likely die because of her lac of knowledge of how to survive in a natural environment without human assisment. If the orca would be taught how to survive and have little training she may be able to amount something. I have actually studied this subject before and the orcas have not always survived nor have they even amounted something. So the orca Lolita should probably stay in the aquarium for now.

I think Lolita is safer in the seaquarium because if she were sent out to the real world, she would probably die because of her lack of knowing how to hunt food. But I still think that she should be freed because she would be unhealthy in the aquarium. I think a solution to this problem is that the aquarium could put fish inside Lolita's tank and she'd learn how to survive in her environment. Then we could set her free.

I think Lolita should be in the aquarium because there is a chance of her to die out in the wild just like other whales that were released. She has been in the aquarium for a very long time and she is still happy and healthy out in the wild she would wait for someone to feed her since she has adapted to her environment of being in the aquarium. That is why I think she should stay.

I think Lolita would totally be safe inside the aquarium she was in the aquarium too long. I will prove it to you in the text it said "Hertz said Lolita has been in the aquarium too long. She might not be able to live in the ocean on her own." I think letting Lolita will not be a good idea because she doesn't know how to survive. And she might not be able to live on her own. Even in the text it said "Hertz said Lolita has been in the aquarium too long. She might not be able to live in the ocean on her own." Plus Lolita got caught in 1965 to 1975 to be in the aquarium. It said " Between 1965 and 1975, many Puget Sound orcas were captured for aquariums. Lolita was taken during that period." That probably 40 years. That is why i want Lolita to stay in the aquarium.

I do not think that the Miami Seaquarium people should release Lolita into the wild, because she has lived almost all of her life in the aquarium, and I don't think that she would be able to adapt to such a big change. She wouldn't know how to get food, and she might not even know who her predator is. It's too dangerous. In the text, it says, "Lolita has been a part of the Miami Seaquarium for 44 years...Hertz said Lolita has been in the aquarium for too long. She might not be able to live in the ocean on her own." I don't think that they should release her. However, I don't think that they should continue to catch more orcas, because they need to leave orcas in their natural environment.

I think it would be better for Lolita to stay in Miami's Seaquarium . In the article it says, " Lolita has been part of the Miami Seaquarium for 44 years." I think that might not be good b/c she has already been living ther for so long, she might not remember anything and how to survive in the ocean. Even though letting her go out in the wild would be better, it is still very dangerous. They've let some of the orcas go, but most of them had died like Keiko. Also, it was written, "We are not willing to treat her life as an experiment." If I were one of the people in the group, I wouldn't do that either. We could solve the problem by turning her tank into the ocean, but like a mini one. Then she might be able to learn how to surviv and thrive on her own out in the wild. In conclusion, I don't think it is safe for Lolita to go out, unless she is trained. After all, I love animals!

I think the people who work there should start training Lolita so that she could start learning about being wild and free. I think that Lolita should stay at the Miami Sea Aquarium because shes been living there for 44 years and she might not adapt to the wild for a long time and when shes released she might not survive because she might miss the helpers and would get distracted and keep in mind she is an endangered species so that's a reason to not release them into the wild.It said between 1965 and 1975 Puget Sound Orca were captured and put in aquariums and Lolita was captured at that time.I really like animals and would never wish death upon them so i am hoping they keep Lolita safe and sound in the aquarium and who wants an endangered species to die?People say that its mistreatment to keep a Puget Sea Orca in an aquarium but its not unless the whales are being mistreated and the government would've sued and banned the place from ever being ok to have animals.

I think that Lolita should stay in the aquariam because she does not know anything about living in the wild. She does not know how to fends for food or how to protect it's self. It is used for the employes feeding her, and she does not know who to avoid. "We are not willing to treat her life as an experiment,” he said." She will have a 20% chance of surviving. Lolita is a living creture and she has a right o live. "She is healthy and happy." What will happen to her if she goes somewhere else. She has been living there for 44 years and she is not used to anything else but the customs they have at the aquariam. What if you where in a comfortable in your own place like your house, and then someone picked you up and took you to a place that you are not comfortable in and you dont know how to survive in that place, that is what it feels like. But at least it has not happened yet. The last sentence says, "Lolita will not be released until she was completely ready." he said. But I dont want it ever to happen, at least when I am still alive...............

I think that Lolita is safer in the Miami Seaquarium because she is used to living in the aquarium now. She has been had the aquarium for 44 years. She has adapted to her surroundings. It probably took a while for her to like the aquarium, too. But now she has made friends with the helpers because the text says "Lolita and Hertz have been together to long." It is just like BFF's. If on any account there was a suggestion to make the aquarium put Lolita back into the water, I would suggest that they would train her to get used to living in the wild again. I think that the Miami seaquarium should free Lolita because it's not good for her to live her life in a small tank. In the article it says,"She would first be taken to a netted-off area of the bay. Trainers she knows would stay with her. They would help her every bit of the way,” he said. I agree with the idea if them training Lolita before they release her into the ocean. She pretty much spent her entire life at the aquarium, and it would not be right to release her without even teaching her how to survive on her own.

I think thay L olita should definitly stay in the Miami's Seaquarim.I Believe the biggest reason for is it has a much better chance of survival in the Seaquarium. I bileive this mostly because of what Andrew Hertz said. he said " the killer whale has been living here for 44 years now. If we give her back to the wild life on her own no one will be able to feed her and she might die." This is good reasoning. if people try to save Lolita by putting her back in the sea they might be killing her. Most likely killing her her again Andrew Hertz says it all. " we are not willing to treat her as a life experiment ." I completely agree with Andrew Hertz. Lolita is not a guinea pig to be a used in a test. I beileve some of the protestors might just want to check if Lolita will survive to determin if other orcas they set free will survive. It is true the life of many outwieghs the life of 1. But if you can aviod it you should not put ones life at risk. I definitly think some protestors agaisnt the thought of letting the orca stay in the Seaquarium might think the Seaquarium and Andrew Hertz might just want to keep the the orca for performing thus making money but I deeply disagree with that insane thouht. I n conclusion the killer whale shold stay in the Seaquarium and all that Andrew Hertz said is true.

I think that Lolita is safer in Miami's Seaquarium than being released in her native home off Puget Sound. I think that Lolita is safer because she might leave and after a year she might die, just like what happened to Keiko. A detail from the article is, " NOAA said other attempts to release captive orcas have been unsuccessful. Some freed orcas have died." Another detail is, " Garrett said what matters is not "'the fact that Keiko died, but how he died.”' I agree with what Garrett said it really only matters about how he died, not that he died. I hope that they don't harm Lolita, and she will stay in the Miami's Seaquarium. :)

I think Lolita, the orca, should stay in the Miami Aquarium, because in the text, it was written, "Lolita has been part of the Sea aquarium for 44 years,' Hertz said." If Lolita leaves the aquarium, then she might not be able to live in the ocean by herself. There are reasons that Lolita shouldn't be released in to the wild. In the passage, the author wrote, "The government is still not sure if releasing captive whales is a good idea. It worries about the spread of disease." Another reason is that maybe the killer whale wouldn't be able to find food on its own. After all, Lolita has been in the aquarium so long. In the article, it was written, "Other attempts to release captive orcas were unsuccessful. Some freed orcas died." That means there's a chance that Lolita might die! In the article, Hertz said that he isn't willing to treat Lolita's life as an experiment. He's right. If an orca is dead, that orca is gone forever!

I think that is safer for Lolita to stay at Seaquarium because now that she has been captive for 44 years, says the article: '''Lolita has been part of the Miami Seaquarium family for 44 years,” said Andrew Hertz, who runs Seaquarium. “Lolita is healthy and thriving."' She might not be able to survive in the wild any more. My evidence says the same: "Hertz said Lolita has been in the aquarium so long she may no longer be able to live in the ocean on her own." Also, I think that, although she should stay at the aquarium, she should not perform. I also think that "it is wrong to force her to perform in shows."

I think that Lolita should stay in the aquarium, but she does need room to roam. She is now apart of the aquarium. But if her space is too small, then they either need to move her into a bigger aquarium or set her free. Setting her free is a bit dangerous though. She will have to adjust quickly. But it would be good that she would have people that she is familiar with her then.

I think Lolita should be kept in the Miami Seaquarium because like it said in the story the people were not doing any harm to Lolita .One reason I think Lolita should be kept in the Seaquarium is because if Lolita leaves the aquarium she will not be able to feed herself out in the wild all by herself.Another thing is Lolita probably has no family. There are many chances that Lolita might die in the wild and it is very dangerous because if a predator comes near Lolita she might not Know how to defend herself .Another detail from the paragraph is the government is still not sure if releasing captive whales is a good idea.I think finding food and taking care of herself on her own is one of the biggest dangers of going on into the wild all alone.

I think that Lolita should stay and live in her home in Miami sea aquarium. As hertz said, Lolita had bin a part of their family for forty four years. She has naturally adapted to that kind of environment over the years. If they would just Lolita out into the ocean her chances are of not surviving. In the text it said, "Every sea orca has not survived." and also Lolita was special. She can not die like that! The new policy is that you can not take away the sea orcas from the sea, which is a good thing to hear because that's their natural home where they also have their families their. Also these orcas are endangered. That means there aren't many left on our entire world. Also sea orcas are an animal that you wouldn't normally see so to see these animals we need to stop world and human pollution and make sure obnoxious does anything illegal such as taking the sea orcas from the sea. That's their permanent home for their entire lives so lets save them.-Sasha -I'm just saying!

It may be to late for Lolita to adapt to the new environment she is already adapted to the aquarium. She won't stay alive for long. I think that Lolita should stay at the aquarium . This whale might survive in the wild but there is no taking chances . If a whale gets to close to humans and all that then many bad things are possible . Lolita for example has been living in the aquarium so long it would be dangerous to release Lolita , but she has to at least now what it is like to try to survive without things that aquariums have. This like any other problem has a solution . This ones solution is that the aquarium makes life for Lolita as if she was in the wild and like her mother would have done , teach her how to survive . Then once fully prepared to actually live in the wild , released . I hope Lolita is happy with what she gets. 🐳

I think she should be in the aquarium because when she is free in the wild she can die from pollution, oil, and predator. That is why I think she is safer in the aquarium. So the Government should let her stay in the aqurium.

i lind of agree with you brian because it is not only because of the polution, and , oil aand the predator. It is because she is use to the aqauruim and she would need someone to adapt here and help her servive. And next time you should write more stuff.

Well I don't exactly agree with you Brian when you say that she could dye from pollution, because that isn't really the main idea of what could hurt her. The main thing that could hurt her, is the predator although since she is an orca so there isn't really any predators except for humans. But it's against the law to harm Lolita species. Lolita could also die from hunger, because she doesn't know how to hunt. The main over all thing is can Lolita adapt to the wilderness or is it too late.

I think that Lolita should stay at the aquarium. She would last for a year in the wild like Keiko and then die. Animals get used to their habitat and Lolita was in the aquarium for 44 years! She would maybe freeze to death because the water in the sea is probably colder than the water in the aquarium.Hertz is a person that think Lolita should stay at the aquarium in the article he says ''Every sea orca has not survived''. I think of Lolita as special I would not want Lolita to die like that. If Lolita was one of my puppy's I would not anyone to say that I should release them in to the wild I do not think that a house dog will survive they will have to hunt, but the owner is going to feed them!

I think that Lolita should stay in the aquarium because if she goes into the wild she won't be able to find food because in the aquarium they feed her and she does not go get it. So I think that she should stay in the aquarium. But another thing is like it said in the artical "Orcas activists say the fact that Lolita has so little space is a form of mistreatment". That also is not a good thing because is she has so little space she can't move that much. Another thing is like it said in the artical " The public is increasingly turning againts "the whole idea of performing orcas, Garrett said". I would also turn against orcas performing because people are forcing the orcas to perform. That is not right. So really keeping Lolita in the aquarium is a good idea and a bad idea.
