I can connect with the article but not as much. But I do know that the closer to the earth's crust the the earthquake becomes bigger. In the article it states "The closer to the earth's surface, the more powerful an earthquake is."I can also make a connection about how in the article it says that power lines were down. One time at my house there was an earthquake. It was a very big one and all the electricity was down. We used candles and my parents phone wouldn't work. That made me realize that earthquakes can be a very serious problem.

yes, i can make a connection, when i was about 6 or 7 years old, there was a terrible earthquake and a windstorm. the earthquake shook the ground and the wind blew pretty darn hard.alarm went on and the electricity went out. after it was all over, the old palm tree had been knocked over and been crushed.my dads car was an inch away from being smashed. if you come over to my house, you will see the stump.

I can connect to the article.Depending if the earthquake is close to earths crust, that tells how big the earthquake is gonna be.The evidence I have is in the article,it said ''The more closer to the earth's surface, the bigger the earthquake is.'' Earthquakes happen a lot during my sleep but I know they are dangerous, but they don't seem to wake me up or bother me.Well,to tell you the truth, there was a time I was taking a beauty nap and it was the best nap ever until an earthquake happend so it woke me up and it cut out the power in my house.

I can connect with the article. I know that earthquakes usually form because of the plates on the crust of the earth. One of the plates usually tend to push under or into the other which causes them to stick together, and somehow, this causes the earthquake. It says in the article, "The closer to the earth's surface, the more powerful the earthquake is." Once, we had an earthquake in the middle of the night, and it woke me up. All the walls and the mirrors were shaking. Also, I think a few weeks ago, I was taking a shower, and when I came out, my grandma yelled at me for taking to long and told me that there was an earthquake while I was in there. This is why I do not like earthquakes. They can occur anytime, anywhere.

I already know that the closer to the Earth's surface, the more powerful the earthquake is. The earthquake in Nepal was 7 miles below the Earth's surface. Imaginwe what would've happened if the earthquake was only 1 mile below the Earth's surface! How I know that the earhthquake is more powerful when it is closer to the Earth's surface is because it says in the text that " The closer to the earth's surface, the more powerful an earthquake is." I can make a connection to the power being out because one time I was with my parents and there was a HUGE thunderstorm. We had to light a candle in order to see!

I can make a connection to the article. This is not my experience but my friend's mom's experience. She told me this story. So she lived in a house in Seattle when she was a kid and there was a living room in the house. The living room was very small, and (my friend's mom) Ariadne's parents had put up a giant mirror on each wall that covered the whole wall. This was supposed to make the room look bigger. So about the earthquake part, one day in Seattle there was an earthquake. Now little Ariadne had decided to take a nap on the couch, which was in the living room, and so when the earthquake shattered all the glass, weeellllll.... yeah. You get the point. I'm not quite sure if Ariadne got hurt, but as an adult now, she is fine. The funny part is that she slept through it all! But that is my story about earthquake destruction. What I am relating to in the text is that "Many buildings in Nepal are made of brick or rubble and stone. People were hurt by falling bricks." and that, well, earthquakes destroy houses.

I can make a text to self connection to this article because I have been in an earthquake before. It wasn't a huge one, though. Our kitchen counter just shook a little bit. I think that it's very sad that people lost family members during this earthquake. When I think about going through something like that it makes me scared and I start to wonder about what it would be like to lose one of my family members. The earth's crust changes because there is always more layers of dirt being moved to other places.

I can connect to this article but not that much. When I was 7 and a earthquake started at 2:00 am. My mom got my sister and my dad was told to get me but he was still sitting up in bed looking confused. I had to get up by myself and run to the doorway. The earth quake stopped after 2 minutes. I know that earthquakes form, the plates on the crust of the earth push into one an other and sticks and that usually starts a earthquake. "People said the quake knocked over walls and telephone poles, and broke windows. Many historic buildings were severely damaged or destroyed. Nepal is filled with temples and an ancient royal palace. The 200-foot-tall Dharahara Tower was built in 1832. It was one of the structures that fell down." We have never had a earthquake that would be that strong. When a town is near a mountain it tends to get very dangerous when the earth changes in self. "A magnitude-6.6 aftershock hit about an hour later. At least 20 other aftershocks followed the huge one. Aftershocks are small earthquakes."This is why I do not like earthquakes. They can happen anytime, anywhere.

I can relate the Nepal quake to what I know about earthquakes. I would like to say the relation of fracking and quakes. (We talked a bit about fracking in class.) So, fracking is a technique to extract natural elements from underground. To frack, water is driven into the ground to crack it's way into the natural wells of elements, which are then pumped out. But the problem with this is the water driven into places where there is no elements remains their and causes small fault lines in the ground, which later could help enlarge a smaller quake, move underground and cause one or even widen over time and make a more serious case of what I listed above.

I can make a few connections but only a few. Some the connections are that earthquakes can be seen of how strong they are by magnitudes. If it is higher than 5,it could be real problem and the closer it is to the surface, the more cracks it will cause and more damage and the one that it Nepal,it was 7.8 earthquake and it cause a lot of cities and ancient cities to be destroyed.

I never had experiences with earthquakes in my life but I know about what they can cause and what they can do. Earthquakes are very deadly and can kill many people. When city's that aren't very rich and are poor have earthquakes it causes lots of damage the city can't fix, such as Katmandu. It was said too rain on Sunday at Katmandu and that leaves the peoples who houses were destroyed life even harder. I feel bad for the people of Katmandu and hope they have a good rest of there life. Also it is good that Indian airplanes came to help them and care for them.

I agree. Life in Nepal is hard for them. It's one country that has the most earthquakes, but the least amount of money. Their houses and buildings are made of really weak material and I don't think that they have enough money to repair all of the damage that the earthquakes cause. I also agree that it's going to be really hard for Katmandu, because after the destruction of the earthquake, there's very little shelter and it's going to rain!!! I think that we can change that. It's a poor country. A penny to them is gold.

I once went to a SENG conference. There I went to a museum where I went on a ride that simulated earthquakes. I usualy sleep through earthquakes when they happen at night, so, I usualy don't feel them. I know that earthquakes are caused by titoic plates shifting and then, since those plates are connected to land, the land moves.

I can connect what I've read in the article with what I already know about earthquakes, because it talks about how earthquakes can lead to huge destruction, like damaged buildings, and even the deaths of many people. Earthquakes is a very serious and dangerous subject. Something else that it said in the article that I already knew was that when the rocks and dirt that shift under the crust of the earth creating earthquakes, is close to the earth's surface, the earthquake is stronger, and therefore more destructive. Even when rocks are shifting 15 miles or more, under the earth, that motion can still make a large effect on the earth's crust. In the text it says, "More than 3,ooo people were killed. The quake destroyed highways and buildings." This earthquake in Nepal was VERY dangerous. In the text, it also says, "The closer the earth's surface, the more powerful an earthquake is." the people in Nepal were very unfortunate because it was REALLY close to the earth's surface this time, so the earthquake was huge. Nepal is a poor country. We should help.

I can make a pretty good connection to this article. I already know a lot about earthquakes. Especially that they are very dangerous. Sometimes they can be so dangerous you can't stand anything against it. I also know the procedure you have to take to be careful if a earthquake does happen to come across. But of course everyone knows that. I also know that the pectonice plates hit each other letting lose a riple in the air shaking a place or places creating an earthquake. When the plates are more far away from the earths surface the less you feel the earthquake. Also if the plates are closer to the earths surface then the more dangerous it gets. Almost all the time i wake up and my dad or mom ask me "did you feel that earthquake last night , i think it was about 1.3." When i was little i felt like i was being left out of something exiting. But know i know that if it is very strong it is not exiting but scary. It can happen at any point of the day . In the article it states that, " Magnitude is a measure of how strong an earthquake is on a 1 to 10 scale. The capital and Kathmandu Valley were hit hardest by the earthquake. It also shook several cities across northern India, and was felt as far away as Pakistan, Tibet and Bangladesh.Officials said the earthquake occurred only 7 miles below ground, which is considered shallow. The closer an earthquake is to the earth's surface, the greater its destructive power. Witnesses said the trembling of the earth went on for several minutes.A magnitude-6.6 aftershock hit about an hour later, and at least 20 other aftershocks followed the huge quake.“This quake was so big," said Prajana W. Pradham, who is helping coordinate the emergency response for the CARE relief organization. “We’ve been feeling tremors for four hours. I just felt another big jolt.'" Witch means that the earthquake the article was refering to was very strong and it can happen anywhere.Be careful their may be one coming you way right now. BOOM ,CRAKE.

I can make a connection to the article. When I was in Hawaii during Spring Break, we went to a tsunami Museum in a place called Hilo. I learned that tsunami's are made because of earthquakes with a magnitude of 7.0 and higher. That night at about midnight, their was an earthquake that all of my family felt. Everyone kept thinking about the tsunamis that could have happened. Luckily, it was a 4.8 magnitude earthquake. We looked on the news in the morning. We were lucky that it didn't do any damage to the town.

Earthquakes are one of the many dangerous things in narture. I however have only been in small ones. The largest one only woke me up. It was around 10:00 and I think it was 3.2 which is nothing compared to 7.8. Although I would like to make a connection to the article and an earthquake I that was in a book of mine. The book is called SMILE and its a true story. Also for people who wants to read it this is NOT a spoiler alert. It starts when the girl Raina asks her mom a question but all of a sudden the floor starts bouncing up and down. Her and her little sister run under the desk clutching each other. Meanwhile the youngest (Will) is confused and is right next to the book shelves. The mom is yelling everyone is screaming and there's just a lot of chaus. But right when it starts it stops. The bookshelves were thankfully built in. They find out it was about 7.5. And then the dad comes home and is saying that they had to postpone the world series. And that is it, and yes some of you have heard of this earthquake it was real and it was as series as the one in Nepal although this city was not as poor as Nepal.

I can make a text-to-world connection with this article. Earthquakes are very dangerous and could be deadly. Earthquakes cause the world to repeatedly which is very dangerous. Bookshelves, lamps, ect. can all tumble over depending on the earthquake. I have been in a couple earthquakes before, but they were not major earthquakes. Now i have a little story that my relatives have told me. It is not true but it tells how some earthquakes can destroy everything. "There was a young girl named Morgan. She was sitting on the couch in the living room of her new home. She is an only child and she loved to read. When she was sitting on the couch, reading her favorite book, all of a sudden the earth started to shake. Morgan was very scared because she did not know anything about earthquakes. One thing she did know was to cover her body under a table, so she did. The earthquake lasted about 3 minutes. When it stopped, Morgan's parents ran out of their bedroom to see if she was okay. After, Morgan's parents explained to her that earthquakes are usually formed because of the plates on the crust of the earth. One of the plates either hits into or under the other and that causes an earthquake." That was the story. Earthquakes have no due date or anything like that. They come out of surprise. So always be careful because an earthquake can happen anywhere at any time.

I think that it would be a good idea to include a picture that shows people being rescued from under buildings that fell and people still living in destroyed buildings because this will tell readers that the people in Nepal need help. I also think it would be a good idea to include a picture of the Dharahara Tower before the earthquake happened. This will tell the readers that the earthquake was so strong it knocked down a big tower.

I have experienced an earthquake but the magnitude was less than 4.

The Nepal earthquake was a tragic time and day. It destroyed homes, work buildings, ancient sites and buildings. Also families with loved ones that died in the earthquake. I can make a article to self relation and knowledge of earthquakes. Earthquakes can cause avalanches in tall hills ir mountains. It says in the article that Mount Everest had landslides and avalanches in it and a person that survived it tweeted it hand helped people out that were injured. I also know that it can cause money problems to the state or country. Because of the rubble they need to pay to build them back and get help. It says that in the article Nepal was poor and couldn't afford that much. Now i will talk about my knowledge about the earth's crust. It turns all shaky when an earthquake comes and then goes to the ground.

Famous landmarks can be destroyed and homes and companies. I have never experienced a major earthquake and none of them were destructive. My mom said that she experienced a GIANT earthquake. My mom was sleeping and then, she woke up and then it felt like a giant truck hit the side of the house. BOOM!! The house was shaking for minutes. It felt like forever and ever. I can make a connection to the article. What I already know about earthquakes is that they destroy buildings and other things, they can either kill people and give injuries to people, and they can make people have no home. What happens to the earth's crust is that the earthquake makes a powerful movment of rocks in the earth's crust. what we do to prepear if an earthquake comes is we store water bottoles and food because the earthquake will cause damage so we can't go and buy food. I can compare the Nepal earthquake to other earthquakes. The Nepal earthquake was a strong earthquake that killed more than 3,000 people, and a diffrent earthquake can kill about as much as that, but the Nepal one was really bad. If the aftershock was 6.6 then I bet the earthquake was really bad. Plus if you look at the picture you might be able to see how bad it is.

It was quick however it shook the frame of my bed and the rails by the stairs. the rails made a twitching and squeaky sound and the frame of my bed was banging against my wall. This wasn't a very serious earthquake however you don't normally notice it. In the morning I asked my mom if she had felt it and she said yes, however, the boys in my house were sleeping through it. Also we had 2 earthquakes when I was in first grade. we would have to grab a chair leg a duck our heads.

I have never been or have seen an earthquake that I felt in real life but a I still know some things about them. Like in the earthquake in Nepal Iknow that buildings can collapse in very strong ones and kill many people or ANIMALS too. Unlike the one in Nepal I also know that there can rumble under your feet , and some you can not even feel. They can be truley devastating and really brutal. If there is one like the one in Nepal It can take a long time and be really hard to come back from it and get over with. I also do not agree with the people in Nepal that want to not save animal lives only after after human lives are saved.

A connection to what I already knew about earthquakes is that they could be very serious. Earthquakes could kill people and damage valuable objects. It could even wreck your whole entire house! After all, in the passage, it was written, "More than 3,000 people were killed. The quake destroyed highways and buildings." I also know that when an big earthquake happens, leave everything you have and just run to safety or take cover. Your life is more important than something very expensive. If it's gone, just buy it after. But if you are dead, you can't buy back your life. In school, we sometimes go under our tables. We also do fire drills. Also, there was this one tiny earthquake that lasted less than on minute this year. I was reading a book at that time while my mom was watching t.v. and my grandparents were listening to the radio. Out of nowhere I felt an earthquake and we all ran outside. Then, we just talked about how to be safe from an earthquake. The more powerful the earthquake is, the deeper it goes through the earth's crust. And that's when the earth crust changes. Those huge quakes could last for some minutes.

What I know about earthquakes is that sometimes they make lots of damage and little damage. What I know about earth's crust is that with massive earthquakes the earth's crust can change more than little earthquakes because the earth's crust needs alot of energy in order to change.
