The California drought is a very severe thing that is happening. The California drought mean people are using too much water. The California drought is affective.it is affective to birds who stop by for a drink, and to rest. However if you use less water we will have less droughts.

The California drought is very dangerous. Since it has been so dry, most of the natural wetlands have disappeared, causing it to be harder for birds to migrate. Canada and Alaska had more baby birds than usual, so this year we needed more man made wetlands, but we have 50,000 acres of wetlands instead of 250,000 to 300,000 acres of wetlands. How CA makes man made wetlands is the rice farmers flood their rice fields in order to produce a large body of water, also called a wetland.

Hello people.I know about the drought. I know that when people use to much water or when it never rains. It does not water the plants with the rain and people will use the filtered water for them self. And in the article it says that the farmers flood their rice fields (man made) with water so the birds will have a place to wash and rest. So we will not harm or dehidrate birds.

I know that the drought is limiting our water supply so the drought is not good for the farmers. The farmers usually flood 250,000 or 300,000 acres of land at their farm but this year they can only flood 50,000 acres of land. The flood really helps the migrating birds. They can rest there, eat there, and recover there. The drought is really bad for the farmers and the migrating birds.

I agree with you, Sofia. It is very sad that we don't have much water, so the birds have to suffer. I wish that there was more water in California.

What I already know about the California drought is that there is not enough water for both man and animal. Also without water we can not survive so can not animals because every body needs water! A way that me and you can help is by not letting the water run because we are in a drought.

In the passage, it was written that the when birds migrate they need water or else they might die before they could even finish their journey.

In the article I knew that there was a drought. Although I did not know that migrating birds are coming to Sacramento and San Joaquin Valley because they need birds to survive. I know because in the article it says "They are one of the first to fly south in an annual migration that brings 350 species to California's Sacramento and San Joaquin valleys." That shows that different migrating birds are coming over here because they need water to survive. I also did not know that people are making man made water areas for the birds to survive.

I think the california drought is really dangerous to the migrating birds and other living animals. It has been really dry over the past couple months preventing animals from the water they need to have to survive.Canada and Alaska have more birds than usual so we would need more wetlands. We only have 50,000 acres of water instead of 250,000 or 300,000 acres of water.Almost all of the CA has been hit by the drought.Millions of birds migrate in September,October, and Febuary to March.

We use a lot of water here in California and California is in a drought. It connects to this article because birds migrate to the south for the winter and they need a lot of water to make the journey to the south, and that means that the birds use a lot of water in their stomach. We also use a lot of water for drinking, washing our clothes, taking a bath, and making food. There is a lot of water using right now. We have to try to save water from drying out from the wetlands.

We have been in a drought for at least 3 years. People waste a lot of water during these years by watering plants, taking long showers or baths, and playing with water. Sometimes rain doesn't come for a long time. That is why we are in a drought. That is also why the birds might not even make it through their entire migration!

The California drought is where we loose water. It is life threatening. Our animals and plant life are endangered. They need water to grow and survive. Conservationists are building wetlands for these birds that are loosing their life. One sixth of the water is gone from the rivers in California such as the Los Angeles River. Basically, there is no water there. The man-made wetlands have helped those birds because they now have the water they need to live and survive.

I know that we need to save as much water as we can even animals need water. The article was about how people are helping birds while they are migrating in the drought by making pop-ups for them and there they will swim and catch bugs. With out these pop-ups the birds may not survive.

I can connect that the water dries out because the sun is very hot and dries the water. Then that creates a drought. Also that birds need water to survive. An example of a bird that swims is a duck. I hope the world tries to save water or else humans will probably die! We need water to drink. Humans also use water for showering washing their hands and even going to the pool.

I think the drought effects the world because it gives birds smaller places to stay and it takes away a lot of wetlands.People around the world need water and the drought is giving us less water to drink and that effects people from living.

I think a connection to the California Drought to the article is that the birds need more wetlands like we need water it is a severe need for both of us. We both survive pt something we need. The birds need wetlands and we need water. Also the birds wetlands are drying up right now just like are water supply. Another thing is that it says that if birds don't get their water they will not survive throughout their long journey .

Some connections with to the article and what I already know about the drought is 1.Both of them are losing water and some animals are starting to grow thirsty because of it.2.Birds that are migrating to the place where it has a drought are going thirsty and having trouble surviving without water and won't be able to give water to their chicks.3.People are creating and saving water for people and animals.

I could connect what I know about the drought to what I learned about the drought . I know that when a drought is happening people need to save water. I didn't know that birds need water to survive and wetlands help them survive. I did know that the drought is not good because lots of animals can die because animals need water to survive. People all around the world could help with the drought by taking shorted showers, not waste water, and not leaving the water on when brushing your teeth. Not everyone saves water it's not good for the earth.

What I know about the drought is that people are using too much water than they really need. People are pouring water they can't drink, they're taking too many showers or take long showers, they water their lawn too often, and they let the water run when they do the dishes. One way that we can try to preserve water is to to water your plants with some dish water that you don't need.

The California drought is affecting. It's affective to the birds who are stoping by for a rest, on their journey to wetlands in winter. So many farmers dig up farmland to make Pop-Ups.Then the migrating birds will have a place to stay and hunt bugs. Two ways you can save water is by taking shorter showers and turn off the sink when your not using it.

in this article i read that when the birds migrate they need water in order to continue on their journey so the conservationists decided to rent rice fields from farmers and flood them, to make a noticeable place to help the birds.

This article is telling us about how bad the drought is for many things, and this article is pacifically talking about how bad it is for birds.I already know about how bad the drought is and trust me it is super bad.I know this because because of the drought we may run out of water , fish may die , and bird's will run out of resting place's(especially migrating birds) .

I think that the California drought is a very serious matter. Many plants and animals are dying because of the drought. People are either using too much water in the shower, watering their plants too much or leaving the water on while they brush their teeth. We can all keep our plants and animals alive by using less water throughout the day. We need to conserve our water by using less water in the shower and much more. Some ways we can conserve water is by taking shorter showers, when we are about to brush wet the brush and turn off the water. Another good way to save our water is to have on or two pitchers of water and put it in the fridge so you wont keep having to go to the sink over and over again for water and instead you will have ice col water.

I know that California is in a really big drought. I live very near the LA river and when i hike up in the hills with my mom, i see that the river has cement walls around it and then it gets greener as we go closer to Frog Town. I am not sure that this has anything to do with the drought, but California is in a humungous drought and i can make a text-to-self connection because this article talks about how birds who are migrating and don't have much water or plants or animals to rest in and eat. The LA river nearby my home is channelized and shallow and the migrating birds don't have a lot of food or resting space. I know that the people of downtown LA are trying to plant trees and make the rest of the LA river like a marsh also, although i never thought about turning rice fields into wetlands.

the california drought is very dangerous to animals and is where we flood about 250,000 to 500,000 acres for the birds so they will survive in the process of migrating to the south in california. Since more birds than usual were born in the state alaska, more birds were flying to california which is a magor problem.

Droughts are very serious. I new lots of thins about droughts. But I learned more things about droughts after reading this article. One thing I learned is that Alaska and Canada had a wet winter and more birds are giving birth, so a lot of birds are migrating to California. This was in " State Hit Hard By Drought."
