The reason Roger doesn't run away is because in the story it says there is noise in the house so it means there are other people .Mrs.Jones could tell the people to catch him or let him be free.He could have run if he wanted to.

I think that Roger didn't run away when Mrs. Jones let him free to wash face because even though Mrs. Jones put him in a head lock all the way home she started treating him properly and there was no reason for him to run away.He also could have stayed because there were other people in the house and they could have easily caught him and brought him back to Mrs. Jones.

I think Mrs. Jones gave Roger the money for blue suede shoes is because she realized that he learned his lesson and was taught right from wrong. Some evidence is that Mrs. Jones said in the text " You could've asked me for the money for blue suede shoes." Another reason that Mrs. Jones gave Roger the money for blue suede shoes is because in the text it says that Mrs. Jones told Roger" I were young once and I wanted things I couldn't get." I also think that Mrs. Jones gave Roger the money was because I think that he reminded Mrs. Jones of herself when she was his age.

On page nine to ten, it was written "Then she reached down, picked the boy up by his shirt, and shook him until his teeth rattled." At that moment, Roger might of felt afraid and scared. It also said on page thirteen,"He did not trust the woman not to trust to trust him now. And he didn't want to be mistrusted now." Since Roger didn't trust the woman, Mrs. Jones might be able to catch Roger again to teach him a lesson. Roger might of want to snatch the pocketbook before he left to buy the blue suede shoes, too.

Roger did not run away when Mrs. Jones turned him loose because Roger knew Mrs. Jones had an extra eye on him while Mrs. Jones was lying down on her daybed. The evidence I got is on page 13, last paragraph,"The women did not watch the boy to see if he was going to run now, nor did she watch her purse, which she had left behind. But the boy took care to sit far aside the purse , where he thought she could see him with the corner of her eye." Also, Roger doesn't run away when she turns him loose because he knew he would get mistreated again in an horrible way.

I think Roger did not run when Mrs. Jones let him go to wash his face because Roger might be scared of Mrs. Jones and he doesn't want Mrs. Jones to find out that he was gone. My evidence is on page 10, Mrs. Jones said, "If I turn you loose, will you run?" Then Roger said, "Yes'm. This evidence tells me that Roger is scared of Mrs. Jones.

I think Mrs.Jones is trying to tell Roger that she has done things bad too and everyone has something in common because in the passage it says "I have done things, too, which I would not tell you neither tell God,if he didn't already know.Everybody's got something in common."So I think Mrs.Jones forgives him because he's not the only one who has done something bad.

I think that Mrs.Jones gave Roger the money because he reminded her of herself when she was his age. I know that because on page 13 it said Mrs.Jones said,''I were young once and I wanted things I could not get.'' I think giving him the money was a way to prevent him from doing bad things that she did before because on page 13 it also said that she tells him ,'' I have done things too, that I would not tell you - neither tell god if he didn't already know.'' It was a way to make herself feel less guilty for what she had done before.

I think that Mrs.Jones gave roger the money to teach him right from wrong. Instead of robbing someone for something maybe you should ask for it. Mrs.Jones told Roger that she did horrible things when she was younger but would not tell any one or even God if he didn't know. Also in the story it said''The door was opened. He could make a dash for it down the hall. He could run, run, run, run!'' But Roger didn't. Instead he stayed and because he did Mrs.Jones gave Roger food. She even gave him 10 dollars so he can buy the blue sued shoes. Mrs.Jones taught him right from wrong. She taught him that it is wrong to steal/rob. Instead you should ask and you might get what you wanted. After Roger left he didn't know what to say except for ''Thank you Ma'm'' In conclusion Roger got his blue sued shoes and learned not to steal but to ask.

She gave him the money because maybe she wanted to be the mom that her mom wasn't. I think this is correct because the text says " Everyone has something in common."Also the text says that"I couldn't get to some things that I wanted." Mrs.Luella Bates Washington Jones also said" I have done things that I wouldn't tell you son neither tell god if he didn't already know." I chose this answer because maybe she did the same mistake and she is passing the lesson on to Roger now. Maybe in the future to come when Roger gets older someone will try to steal his pocket book and he might teach that person the same lesson that Mrs.Luella Bates Washington Jones taught him!

The reason why she gave Rodger money to buy the suede shoes is because she didn't want Rodger to steal like she did.THe evidence is on page 13 where she says"I were young once too and I wanted things I couldn't get. There was a long pause. The boys mouth opened. Then he frowned, not knowing he frowned. The woman said,"Um-hum!You thought I was going to say,but I didn't snatch people's pocketbooks.Well I wasn't going to say that."So that means she did indeed stole and she didn't want Rodger to steal. That is why she gave Rodger the money so he wouldn't have to steal money to get the blue suede shoes so he wouldn't do what she did.

I think Mrs Jones made a good decision for giving Roger money for the blue shoes. She taught Roger a lesson because in page 15 the passage said something other than '' thank you M'am '' which means he learned manners. Also in the text it says she shut before he could say anything nice which might mean he would want to be kind more than ever

The reason that Roger did not run away when Mrs. Luella Bates Washington Jones turned him loose to wash his face may be because he might have known that she was going to give him food. In the text, it said he was ''frail and willow-wild'', and since he was skinny, he must have been starving. He must have needed the food. I also think that Mrs. Luella Bates Washington Jones was trying to teach him a lesson, but if he ran away, it was not her problem. I think that Roger may have tried to steal a purse before, but was not TAKEN IN AND GIVEN FOOD, so he stayed longer to see what would happen. But in the text it says that his face was dirty and he was skinny, so he probably needed the food and that is why he stayed.

I don't think Roger runs away maybe because Roger started trusting Mrs.Jones and Roger wanted to eat and have someone trust him.He wanted Mrs.Jones to trust him because he didn't want to be mistrusted now.The evedence was ''He did not trust the woman not to trust him.And he did not want to be mistrusted now.'' Also, Roger had no family to cook for him and maybe he was hungry.Mrs.Jones fed Roger cleaned Roger and also called Roger her son. That is a nice thing to do to a poor kid who has no family and he cannot do anything alone in his home he does not have a job so who can pay the rent and buy food and all of a sudden he has no food or home and he is a poor kid.Roger dose not run when away when Mrs. Jones is watching him.

Mrs.Jones gave him the money because I think Mrs.Jones said on page 13 the woman said that she did bad things to and maybe she wanted to teach the boy a lesson by the ten dollars because maybe she wanted to make up for the bad things she has done. Also maybe she wanted the boy to learn not to steal and earn the money like she did.Mrs.Jones also said that she did bad things to but not steal a pocketbook. On page 13 Mrs.Jones also said that many people have things in common and you and I done bad things. When the story said that Mrs Luella Bates gave Roger the ten dollars to buy blue suede shoes I think the reason why is because that maybe that when she said "I have done things too, which I will not tell you, son neither tell God, if he didn't already know. Roger did not run away when he had the chance because Mrs.Jones would be able to see him in the corner of her eye and she would catch him, she would be even more mad at Roger.First he tried to steal her pocketbook and then if he tried to run away Mrs.Jones would be really mad at Roger and I don't think Roger would want that. The story says that he turned around and the door was open and he could of ran away but he didn't.

I think Rodgers didn't make a dash for it when Mrs. Jones turned him loose because Rodgers didn't want to be mistrusted by the woman after what she'd done to him meaning putting him in a half nelson and dragging him up the street all the way over to her house. I think if Rodgers tried to run away then Mrs. Rodgers would easily catch him again, put him in a half nelson again and teach him the whole life lesson over again. another reason why I think he didn't run away was because Mrs. Jones said that she would make dinner for him and I bet he was hungry.

I think MRS.Jones gave roger the money for the blue suede shoes because she was trying to teach him a lesson to not steal and that sometimes you can't always get what you want even when you steal.I know because on page 14."Now here take this ten dollars and buy your self some blue suede shoes. And next time do not make the mistake of latching onto my pocketbook nor nobody else's".And ,"good night !behave yourself ,boy''.Also she was taking care of roger because she thinks roger has now one home to treat him correctly or nicely.I know because on page 10 it say's,''Ain't you got nobody home to tell you to wash your face?",''no'm,'said the boy(roger).

I think Roger did not run when Mrs. Luella Bates Washington Jones let him loose because he did not want to be mistrusted. In the story it said,"he did not want to be mistrusted now." Mistrusted means that people do not trust you for what you have done. Also when Mrs. Jones went to make the boy Roger supper, Roger sat on the other side of the pocketbook.I think that was a good choice

I agree with you Sarah because if Roger ran Mrs.Jones would not just let it go,she would of ran after him and send him to kids jail.

I think she gave him the money because when she was young she didn't get every thing she wanted. He could of asked for the blue suede shoe instead of stealing the pocket book mrs.Jones said. She said she would not even tell god what she have done.

I think that Mrs jones gave Roger the money because he did not have other pairs of shoes and those are good shoes.

David, I disagree because it doesn't say in the passage blue suede shoes are good shoes and it didn't say that he did not have other pairs of shoes so i agree with Sasha that you didn't provide deatail in your reply and you didn't support it with evidence.

I think that Ms. Jones gave Roger the money for a pair of shoes because she felt sorry for him,the story did say that she wanted things as a child that she couldn't get. Plus Ms. Jones had asked him what he wanted so I think that she was going to give him the thing that he wanted or at least something close enough.

I totally agree Celest because it said in the passage "I were young once and I wanted things I could not get.
